The Story

MACKENZIE (MAC) MITCHELL, mid 30’s, is a well known horror book author. Abandoned at nine years old by her father, Mac’s life has been consumed by filling that void with alcohol and drugs; ultimately crashing her career, ruining her marriage, and causing a deep rift with her eleven year old son who she has neglected. When her son is diagnosed with a severe kidney disease, in dire need of a transplant, and when she learns that she and her ex-husband are not eligible donors, Mac is forced to turn to her father, YALE PARKER, who she hasn’t seen for twenty-five years. Mac tracks Yale down at an old-time cabaret club, where he is a larger then life emcee/comedian. After being pushed and prodded, Yale reluctantly agrees to go with Mac to get tested as a possible donor. As father and daughter start to re-connect, and as Yale, who has a joke for every occasion, reveals jaw dropping secrets about his past, their relationship and the story take bizarre turns in all different directions, ultimately each learning that “genes” run deep.
